Winter Olympics

Since 1924 there has been a separate Winter Olympic Games.  Before that the summer Olympics included some winter sports.

Today the Winter Olympics are also held every 4 years for winter sports like skiing and ice hockey.  Fewer countries send teams to these Games.

Until 1992 the Winter and Summer Olympics were held in the same year, but not always in the same country.  Since 1994, the Winter Olympics have been held 2 years after the Summer Games.
